The Woodville Lacrosse Club men's league team will next month match up against the Eltham Lacrosse Club of Victoria to vie for the title of Australian Lacrosse Club Champions.
Both Woodville and Eltham are reigning premiers in their respective state leagues, but are no stranger to each other, having in the past visited each other's back yards for pre-season matches. Both teams will be matched up in terms of age and experience, in what should be a cracker of a game to determine Australia's premier lacrosse team.
The Australian Club Championship will be held on the astroturf at Finsbury Reserve, Woodville North on Saturday, 7 June. The evening kicks off at 6pm with the women's championship game between local state league premiers Glenelg taking on Victorian premiers Newport, with the men's game to follow.
The winning teams will be awarded prizemoney of $2500, plus there will be MVP prizes and door prizes on the night.
Following the games the After Party will be held at the Eurobar, Tattersalls Hotel, 17 Hindley Street in the City.
Warriors Roanoke recruit, goalie Katlyn Scarlett, was named to the All-ODAC team for the third time in her career. Katlyn will be joining us mid-month.
Connecticut College recruit, Lindsey Coit, made her all-conference team too. Lindsey will be joining us at the end of the month.
Katie Mazer, who played for the Warriors in 2007 and has since returned to the USA, has been enjoying a fantastic season with her University of Pennsylvania lacrosse team. On the weekend, they beat Northwestern University, who until then had been enjoying a 36-game winning streak, 11 goals to 7, and in the process have taken from them the #1 team ranking for Division I in the NCAA. Congratulations Katie!!

Exciting news, we have confirmed that Connecticut College Captains, Sarah Miner and Lindsey Coit, will be joining the Woodville club this year.
A proven play maker and distributor, Sarah Miner has been a force on the offensive end of the field for the Camels. Miner has tallied 38 goals and 49 assists for 87 points in the past two-seasons. Lindsey Coit had a stellar 2007 Season with a Selection to the All-NESCAC (All-New England Small College Athletic Conference) Team. She led the team in goals (25), draw controls (27), and caused turnovers (23), adding 12 assists to tally 37 points. Lindsey opened the season with a five goal outing against Bowdoin College. Coit tallied a hat-trick in the team's first victory against Skidmore College. Monday, March 19, Coit was honored as the NESCAC Player of the Week.
Connecticut College has a great history with Woodville, we have hosted the Camels men's team at the club and had a continuing relationship with ex-coach and now Athletics Director, Fran Shields. A number of our members have been up to New London to visit the school too. It will be great to add the next chapter to the story between our teams.
To find out more about Sarah and Lindsey, check out the Camels' Women's Lacrosse site.
As mentioned with the men's announcement, it looks like all players will have full working visas this year. So if you can help with sourcing work please let our committee know. We will also be looking for hosts for both our men and women, so please consider being part of this wonderful experience and email myself, Guilia Marion or Mike Elliss to register interest.

Woodville is very excited to announce it has signed Roanoke College goalie Katlyn Scarlett.
Katlyn, the 2007 Old Dominion Athletic Conference women's lacrosse Player of the Year, has also been selected onto the Second IWLCA (Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association) NCAA Division III All-America Team. Scarlett led the Maroons this past season to the 2nd Round of the NCAA Division III Women's Lacrosse Tournament. She was a First Team All-ODAC pick as well as an ODAC postseason All-Tournament team selection.
Katlyn will be a great mentor for up and coming junior goalkeepers, Bianca Parker, Caitlin Wallis and Gemma Cochrane. We are hoping to announce in the coming days two more players to join Katlyn for the season, so stay tuned!
To find out more about Katlyn check out her profile below.

Overseas players 2008 make St Michael's connection international.
We are pleased to announce that we have selected four men's players from St Michael's College in Vermont to join the Warriors in season 2008. We can only play two in league each week, so the other two will play reserves each week.
St Michael's is a strong Div II school coached by former US 90 & 94 and Cornell goalie Paul Schimoler. Joining us are: 2nd team all American mid-fielder Mark Agostinelli, defender Jeffrey Dowling and attackmen Mike Boerma and Greg Lazarus. To read more about the players and the college follow one of the links below.
Welcome to the club guys, given the last couple of year's experiences it seems certain they will have a great adventure.

We are pleased to announce our men's league coach for seasons 2008 & 2009 - Peter Mathwin.
Most of you will know Peter as coach of the Brighton League team for seasons 2006 and 2007. We are very excited to have secured Peter's services with his strong focus on developing future talent and a big desire to secure this year's premiership. Peter has a calm and organised style that will suit our current squad perfectly. He plans to introduce a stronger focus on physical well-being, ensuring we have a trainer on the side on game days and available to support us with both prevention and treatment of injury during the week.
I am sure most of you will not know too much about Peter's background given he disappeared from SA Lacrosse at his playing prime of 22 to pursue career aspirations. He has coached league in Melbourne and obviously here, but I am sure you want to know a a little bit more about him:
Please make Peter feel welcome and go ahead and introduce yourself.
League training commences Monday night, same lax place, same lax channel!!

Welcome to season 2008!
Get ready for an exciting and rewarding season of lacrosse. We are looking to build the club's position with the addition of women's reserves, men's B's, U/15 boys, additional U/11 teams and more players in existing grades, all part of our target to double our 2007 membership numbers by 2009. We are also looking at a possible women's B team too.
I am pleased to announce that the women's and men's-on-field committee positions have been filled. Giulia Marion has taken the women's spot and Michael Elliss the men's, thanks and welcome to you both, we are so pleased that both these key roles are in good hands. Full details of this years committee, including the inclusion of Luke Oswald as Secretary, can be seen on the club website. You can also see our strategic plan, this year we intend to provide club financial details and minutes of meetings on the web site to improve visibility of the management of the club.
Sadly we have already had two resignations of key positions. The first was Peter Burdett, men's league coach. Peter sadly had to step down due to personal reasons, we wish Pete all the best and again thank him for his wonderful work in season 2007. A sub-committee led by new mens-on-field rep, Mike Elliss with James Inge, Craig Schicker and Pete Witcomb are seeking a new coach. They will communicate with players to get pre-season training under way very soon.
The second resignation was Karen Markham, Social Convener. Karen's changed working arrangements have restricted her ability to lead in this role, she is keen to still be involved and support who ever picks up this role. Anyone interested in supporting us by picking up this important role should contact myself or Luke Oswald.
As you may well know, Craig Schicker has joined Cathy Conaghty as co-coach of our league women. They are working with Giulia to get the women under way.
Andrew (Barney) Dinnison has taken on the Junior Convener role and has begun working to organise coaches and managers for all junior teams in season 2008. If you can help out in any way with juniors please yell out. As a key priority the committee is clear it must have a boys U/15 this season, this is in addition to strengthening all other grades. If you know any boys under 15 years of age as at 1 January who we should talk with please let Barney know.
Stay tuned for more updates.
Yours in lacrosse
