Congratulations to our Australian Representatives

Congratulations to Stefan Guerin and Peter Witcomb on being selected for the Australian Under 21 Men's team for the Asia Pacific tournament in New Zealand in April. Congratulations also to Anthony Feleppa who has been selected in the Senior Men's Australian Indoor Lacrosse team, who are competing in the World Championships in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada in May.

Former Warrior is WomensLax.com's player of the week

Bridget Looney, who played for the Warriors in the STX Women's League last season, has this week been named WomensLax.com's Player of the Week for her four-goal match-winning performance against Notre Dame on the 18th of March. Well done Bridget!!

Interview with Peter Inge

A great interview with Peter Inge on his retirement can be read at on the San Francisco Dragons website.

USA Invades Warrior Land!!

The Woodville Lacrosse Club will welcome three women's and two men's players from the USA to play in our league teams this season. Coming into our women's team are Katie Mazer from the University of Pennsylvania, Erin O'Boyle from Johns Hopkins University, and Shawn Darrell from Longwood University in Virginia.

Our men's team will welcome the inclusion of Brian Calabrese and Kyle Rotelli, both from the University of Delaware. We look forward to the arrival of our new players, who will be helping out with coaching this season as well.

Women's League Coach Welcomed

Woodville is pleased to announce the appointment of our new womens league coach Cathy Conaghty (previously Flett). A multiple rep at Australian and State level and recent Australian U/19 Team Coach, Cathy will bring much to our club. She is already looking to develop our great junior talent and build on the strength in our unit by recruiting 3-4 top players from within Australia and bring in 2 USA players. She will most likely suit up to play in our Reserves, so with this injection of talent in both teams our womens program looks very exciting. Welcome Cathy!
Also on the women's program Peter Witcomb and Jason Vorrasi have been appointed as co-coaches of the Womens Reserves; they will be assisted by managers Steve Hodder and Barney Dinnison. So with the announcements of Mark Southwell and Kate Threadgold into the under 17s, Susan Barnes and Neil Parker into the under 15s and Tara Parker and Hannah Dinnison into the under 13s the women's program should get an early kickstart.

  • Mark Cappelluti named as Men's Reserves Coach for 2007

Season 2007 will see an influx of junior talent into our senior ranks including Jesse Whinnen, Shane Abbott, Dom Bailo and the two Toms - Dwyer and Philp added with the existing young talent of Brendan James, Ben Underwood and Dylan Welford and the return of David Pascoe means we have a great pool to develop. We should also start to see appearances from our U/17s like Adam Young and Josh Harvey too.
With an aging league squad the Warriors needed a coach who would build these players into league regulars within 18 months, this is why the club has turned to Mark Cappelluti to take the reins. It was a big decision for Mark, as he and Ally have a young family and work demands too, but given the success Mark achieved with taking a womens reserves to the flag a couple of years back and his focus and commitment to discipline and systems he is the right choice. We will need commitment and support from players to his approach and some good mature heads in the team to assist with developing these guys. Thanks Mark for taking on such and important role for the club. We will need a team manager, scorers and other helpers to let Mark focus on his role as coach, so please put your hand up if you would like to help out.
