PERPETUAL TROPHIES

PROTOCOL

PLAISTED TROPHY:

UNDER 19 BOYS

PRESIDENT'S TROPHY:

UNDER 19 GIRLS

PART 1: RATIONALE

The Plaisted Trophy dates to pre-WWII and the Port Adelaide District Lacrosse Club. As such, there is a huge amount of history and tradition attached to the award. At this time, any women's teams were not a part of that club. While there was a Woodville Women's Lacrosse Club, it was not a part of the Woodville Lacrosse Club but was a separate entity and was defunct by 1994.

In that year, when the WLC (Warriors) entered teams in the women's competition, there was not an award equivalent to the Plaisted. It was decided to institute one and for want of a better name, the President's Trophy was chosen.

Both of these awards are intended to reward excellence on the playing field. While service to the Club in other areas is important and praiseworthy, it is not, nor should it be, a part of any criteria for these awards. Work in the canteen, setting/packing up grounds, clearing up rubbish and similar will very likely be undertaken by the recipients of the awards; such work is virtually irrelevant to the award. Coaching of junior teams is a task that may be undertaken by a nominee, but should not be seen as a requirement for recognition.

While neither of these awards is a "junior" trophy, both should be regarded as the pinnacle to which a Warrior can aspire as a junior. The Club must make every endeavour to present the awards as almost out of the reach of mere mortals, so that winners are seen by their peers and senior club members as being the best of the best.

These awards are to be presented at senior Club awards night, particularly in view of the fact that the winners are most likely to be ineligible for junior competition. Should a recipient still be playing in a junior team, the presentation may occur at a junior award function, but should be repeated at the senior function.

PART 2: CRITERIA

These trophies are awarded to the under 19 player who demonstrates abilities and qualities above the club standard for the age group.

The above criteria are intended to imply an outstanding player.

PART 3: SELECTION

PART 4: DOCUMENTATION

Nominations, evidence and award winners must be documented in the minutes of the management committee meeting. Award winners must also be documented in the report presented to members at the Annual General Meeting of the Woodville Lacrosse Club. The process should be seen as honest and transparent by the members and the management committee, as in all administration matters, must be accountable for the decisions and able to justify said decisions.
