After an inconsistent season in which the Warriors finished the minor round in third position, Woodville's men's league team defeated East Torrens in the semi finals and then minor premiers Glenelg in the preliminary final to claim their berth in the grand final against in-form Brighton. Woodville set the tone of the match from the first whistle, with Peter Inge winning the first face-off, driving straight to goal and putting one past Brighton’s young goalie in the first few seconds - one of Peter's trademarks. The Warriors built up a 4-2 lead at quarter time, and followed on with a big second quarter, extending the lead to 11-6 at half time. The final two quarters were closer, with Brighton making a late charge in the final quarter, scoring six to take the margin to within two goals. However Woodville’s rock solid defence of Craig Schicker, Adam Caldwell and Peter Witcomb, with Charles Manning again superb in the net on the big occasion, were never going to let the Bombers pull off a famous win. It was sweet victory for coach Peter Mathwin, unwanted by Brighton after last season, returning fire with a 3-0 sweep in 2008 over the Bombers plus an Australian Club Championship to boot. James Inge was a deserving recipient of the President's Medal for a best-on-ground performance, scoring six goals for the match including four in the pivotal second quarter. The Warriors have now won 8 of the past 11 league men's premierships, cementing their place in history as the dominant club of the past decade, and one of the best teams in South Australian lacrosse history.
