| Warriors Game Report - 31 July 1999 |
Brighton outscored us four goals to nil in the first quarter. We were forced into playing a very defensive game, and Goalie Emma Hart did a great job holding the ball and directing the defense.
Linda Russo scored our first goal in the second quarter, and we were eight goals to one at half time. Coach Rob Potter then switched Krissy Wilson onto Brighton's Cathy Conaughty for the quarter, which gave Lyndall Holmes the opportunity to score Woodville's second goal. The defence in the third quarter was excellent and we held the score to one all. Going into the final quarter, we were nine goals to two down.
Kate Threadgold and Krissy Wilson played well in the centre and gave us a lot of opportunities to get the ball into attack. Unfortunately, we were unable to capitalise on these.
Brighton got a run on in the final quarter and outscored Woodville, eight goals to nil. However, Brighton's Cathy Conaughty was held to only two goals for the game by the defence of Lyndall Holmes, and Emma Hart made crucial saves. We didn't have many shots on goal, but our fighting for the ball was promising, and when the Warriors come up against Glenelg next week in the final game of our 1999 season, we should give them a run for their money.
