| Warriors Game Report - 5 June 1999 |
The first goal of the game was scored by Krissy Wilson on the run and the Warriors looked pumped. However, there was then a 55 minute drought as the Warriors failed to score another goal for the game.
The Brighton team was simply too experienced. This does not mean that Woodville played a bad game. Coach Rob Potter was impressed by the team's determination and fighting spirit, and I feel the final score of 19 to 1 did not give a proper indication of the game.
Our centre draws are still letting the team down. It is far more difficult to strip the ball in defence and carry it down the field, than to get a quick break directly from the centre. Our other problem on Saturday, was not getting settled in attack. Instead of taking the ball behind goal and moving the ball around waiting for a cut, players preferred to take on three or four defenders and try to shoot through them. Unfortunately, this resulted in a couple of penalties for barging, or else a save by the goalie.
Call of the day however, was when goalie, Emma Hart was hit on the helmet by a Brighton player. Any hit to the head is an automatic yellow card and a three minute visit to the bench. Supposedly. This player was simply moved four metres in front, and when the umpire was questioned as to why the player was not sent off, the umpire replied that the player had been "off balance". Hmm... I might use that excuse next time I am carded...
