| Warriors Game Report - 14 August 1999 |
Glenelg opened the game with some interesting tactics starting a short stick in defence trying to shut out Warrior attackman James Inge. This was good for the Warriors in preparation for the finals and Woodville adjusted accordingly slotting four goals past Glenelg's keeper and finding the back of the net. Woodville's defence stood strong and stopped Glenelg's attack from creating quality scoring opportunities. Glenelg could only manage a single goal for the quarter as Woodville finished the quarter leading 4-1.
The Warriors were only a whisker away from blowing the game wide open but a few stick skill errors prevented a very polished performance and kept the game very close. Glenelg made the most of their scoring opportunities and managed to find the back of the net four times in the second quarter despite some very good defence from the Warriors. In a very even quarter of lacrosse Woodville also slotted four goals to remain in front at the long break 8-5.
The third quarter saw Coach Brown throw the side around changing personnel all over the field and this created some good scoring chances for the Warriors. Michael Santi hit some form slotted two goals in this quarter helping the Warriors to a four goal tally for the quarter. Although the talk was lacking in defence, Woodville managed to play solid in the back half to hold Glenelg to only three successful scoring opportunities and the Warriors would head into the final quarter in front 12-8.
Once again there were some position changes in an attempt to break the game open. However Glenelg scored the first three goals for the quarter making it a one goal game as they came home hard at the Warriors. Woodville maintained their composure and with three goals by BOG Iggi Marchesan the Warriors slotted five goals for the quarter. After scoring the opening three goals Glenelg struggled and could only manage a further one goal as Woodville went on to win the game 17-12.
