| Warriors Game Report - 7 August 1999 |
The first quarter was a scrappy one, with many penalties given against the Warriors and at one stage had four players in the penalty box. The defence did its best to contain Burnside to only five goals for the quarter and the Warrior attack managing to send the ball past the Burnside keeper on five occasions to end the quarter even at 5-5.
The Warriors lifted a gear in the second quarter and managed to control the ball in the attacking half while defence settled and adjusted to the umpires' decisions. With some quality ball movement in transition and high percentage scoring opportunities the Warriors managed to slot seven goals for the quarter. Some outstanding defence and good goal keeping held Burnside to only three goals and provided the first line of attack as it repelled the ball back consistently. Woodville went into the long break leading 12-8.
The third quarter saw the weather turn bad as the heavens opened and it began to pour with rain. This made conditions for lacrosse very poor and the basic stick skill level dropped and add to this some poor decision making in the attacking half and that sums up Woodville's quarter, only managing to net three goals. The defence remained strong holding out countless fast break opportunities and holding the Burnside attack to only three goals holding a 15-11 lead at the final break.
During the break Coach Brown gave the team a real roasting and demanded the team to lift or suffer the consequences. Woodville hit the field with a renewed attitude and set out to rectify the situation. The Warrior defence line owned the Burnside attack and held them to only two goals while up the other end Woodville created some very high quality scoring opportunities and ripped the net for six goals running out 21-13 winners to remain undefeated for the 1999 season.
