| Warriors Game Report - 24 July 1999 |
After a reasonably slow start to the first quarter, the Warriors attack managed to slot 3 goals past Sturt's Goalie to skip to a 3-0 lead with goals from Anthony Feleppa, Brett Howe and Iggi Marchesan. The defence led by Craig Schicker asserted early authority by holding Sturt scoreless for the opening quarter.
The Warriors steadied in the second quarter and controlled the ball after a period of run and gun lacrosse. However Woodville could only manage a further three goals for the quarter after many low percentage opportunities went begging. Sturt on the other hand made the most of their opportunities in transition also managing to slot three goals past Aaron Sargent and his defence to end the quarter with Woodville leading 6-3.
Coach Brown was a little unhappy with the ball movement in the second quarter and rearranged the line-up. The Warriors' defence was flawless for the entire quarter, holding Sturt scoreless for the second time in the game, while the attack went on a 7 goal run for the quarter with James Inge scoring 3 goals. Woodville went into the last quarter leading Sturt 13-3.
After a few injuries Coach Brown had to throw the side around again, including himself in the attack line (a rare appearance from the great one). The team adjusted and responded well to the changes made and fought hard for every ground ball with Dave Rowley showing everyone how it's done. Sturt regained some momentum in the final quarter but could only manage 4 more goals for the game after another strong performance by the Warrior defence. The Woodville attack, with the help of 2 goals and three assists from Coach Brown, managed to finish strongly with six goals to finish the day ahead 19-7.
