| Warriors Game Report - 8 May 1999 |
With all players focussed on this game, the Warriors exploded out of the blocks as Woodville's offence dominated the first quarter and the Bears defence offered little resistance. The few times the Warriors defence was tested they sent the ball right back to the attacking end. Burnside struggled to post a score until an extra man goal was scored late in the quarter while Woodville scored almost at will with 12 goals making it a 12-1 quarter.
The Warriors kept on rolling full steam ahead in the second quarter while Burnside struggled to find an avenue to the goal. Once again Woodville's defence was solid, repelling all the Bears' efforts to attack, as the Warriors managed to find the back of the net consistently piling on eleven goals, extending their lead to 23-1 at the half time break.
Coach Brown changed the team around in the third quarter to give players exposure to different positions. The Warriors responded well to the changes scoring six goals for the quarter and holding Burnside to just three. Time and time again Woodville's defence, lead by Richard Feleppa and Craig Schicker, regained possession of the ball and starting many transition opportunities as the Warriors went into the final break leading the Bears 29-4.
Woodville's momentum continued into the last quarter with almost a carbon copy of the third quarter. Burnside had done a good job holding it to a 6-3 quarter until the last 30 seconds of the game in which the Warriors slotted 3 goals in an awesome display of fast break transition running out 38-7 victors.
