Howe lifts Warriors

by TANYA DENVER
WOODVILLE celebrated its centenary year in style on Saturday, claiming the Foster's State League men's lacrosse premiership over West Torrens at Findon Reserve.
The Warriors' 18-11 win came as the club's forward, Brett Howe, was named most valuable player in the final for the second year in succession.
Scores were tied 7-7 at half-time when Howe went on an attacking rampage in the third term with three of his four goals to give the Warriors a 14-7 three-quarter time lead.
Woodville held a 5-1 quarter-time advantage but West Torrens came back strongly in the second term when it capitalised on man-up situations caused by Woodville penalties.
Together with Howe, centreman Peter Inge played a key hand for the Warriors as they sealed their historic premiership.
Inge controlled the midfield and broke through for the first goal of the match within the first minute of play.
The grand final appearance brought to an end a string of championship play-off appearances for West Torrens.
The club has been the dominant side of the 1990s having played in nine consecutive grand finals with premierships in '91, '92, '93, '95, '96 and '97.
